On the way to Poás Volcano, we will visit the Doka Coffee Plantation to enjoy a delicious breakfast and a guided tour of the coffee plantation, where we will learn about the current and traditional techniques used by experts to process our golden bean and produce one of the best coffees in Costa Rica.
After the coffee explanation, we will continue our journey to Poás Volcano. As we ascend the volcano, you will notice the difference in microclimates and vegetation, appreciating the great diversity of agriculture present along the way, including ferns, flowers, strawberries, as well as cattle ranches and the view of the central valley creating a beautiful landscape.
At the volcano, we will have time to enjoy the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles, and we will hike along a trail to the beautiful Botos Lagoon while learning about the different ecosystems of the park.
This 2,708-meter (8,000-foot) colossus is active, and you’ll not only admire its impressive crater and gas vents, but also learn about its phreatic and fumarolic activity, as well as the diverse ecosystems and lush vegetation found in this beautiful national park.
We’ll continue our journey to La Paz Waterfalls. Upon arrival, we’ll walk along a beautiful trail that leads to various park attractions, including the aviary, the largest butterfly observatory in the country, the hummingbird gallery, the serpentarium, and exhibits featuring frogs, monkeys, and felines.
A delicious buffet lunch awaits us in the heart of the rainforest. After lunch, we’ll take a hike to visit three impressive natural waterfalls formed by the La Paz River.
It’s worth noting that this hike takes place in the tropical rainforest area and includes steps in some sections. The trail is paved.
