If you see the geometrically perfect cone of Arenal Volcano while driving along the highway, you’ve arrived in La Fortuna de San Carlos. This is an active volcano, but it last erupted in 2010. The area has two main economic activities: cattle ranching and tourism, which is the primary source of employment and economic stability for its residents.
